Biuro Wystaw Artystycznych w Tarnowie is a Municipal Cultural Institution of Tarnów operating in its present form since 1996. It was established in 1962 as the delegacy of BWA in Krakow (today's Bunkier Sztuki). In 1975 it became an independent institution. The seats of the gallery were: the building on Wałowa 10 Street with Sala Lustrzana (The Hall Of Mirrors), apartment house on Rynek 4 in the Pasaż Tertila (Teril Passage), where there were two exhibition spaces: Galeria Pasaż (The Passage Gallery) and Galeria Mała (The Small Gallery). In the years 2010-2013 the experimental gallery seat was on active The Main Railway Station. At that time, it was carried out a major overhaul of neo-gothic Pałacyk Strzelecki (Palace of Strzelecki) located in nineteenth-century Strzelecki Park – Strzelecki Garden, in which the gallery inaugurated its work in May 2013. Since the end of 2013, a division of BWA is "The Permanent Exhibition" located in the building of The Main Railway Station, presenting works from the collection of the Małopolska Fundacja Muzeum Sztuki Współczesnej „Znaki czasu” ("Signs of the Times").
The galery presents contemporary art – polish and foreign classics, the most interesting phenomenas of young art and artists from Tarnów. Every year it organises over 30 exhibitions and art events conducted both in the gallery and other places in Tarnow and also in other galleries in Poland and abroad. Since 2004, every fall, together with Centrum Sztuki Mościce gallery organizes interdisciplinary Art Festival ArtFest - platform for meetings between artists of different disciplines and the effect of the work are exhibitions, concerts and theater performances. Since 2011, the Festival is named after Bogusław Wojtowicz - long-time director of the BWA, who was the originator of the Festival. Gallery conducts research programs relating to the identity of the city and the cultural heritage of contemporary Tarnów and the surrounding area, including "Tarnow. 1000 Years of Modernity " for the modernist potential of the city of Tarnów and Mościce (2010-2011 www.tarnow1000.pl). “Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind. Cycle Of Exhibition of International Contemporary Artists Embracing The Heritage Of Małopolska” was a modern interpretation of four themes related to the Małopolska region’s cultural heritage: the Tarnów youth of Tadeusz Kantor, Zalipie “the painted village”, the Romani and the Jewish motif of Tarnów’s history and culture (2013-2014, www.czegooczy.pl). The specificity of the gallery is also the implementation of sustainable work in the public space Tarnow forming a trail "Art and the City". The gallery has won numerous awards and is recognized in headlines nationwide rankings.
