Culture Centre in Gdynia
Culture Centre in Gdynia was established in 2004 and operates under the control of the local government. Culture Centre organizes different cultural events such as plays, concerts, festivals, workshops, reading poetry meetings and exhibitions. Most of these events are held on a regular, annual basis. Culture Centre cooperates with the Department of Culture, Gdynia City Hall and many different institutions in the city. Along with the city institutions, Culture Centre promotes cultural education for children, adolescents, adults and senior citizens.
Culture Centre has created many notable projects. Among the most important are Scena SAM – Students, Undergraduate and the Masters stage courses, “Scena 138” and project called W Kaczych Butach – both professional and amateur theatre activities.
Young actors take part along with the professionals, who are often their tutors on the Students` Stage SAM. So far O co biega? directed by Tomasz Podsiadły, Napis directed by Grzegorz Chrapkiewcz, Król Lear po polsku directed by Krystian Nehrebecki under the artistic support of Jerzy Gruza, and “Mayday. Run For Your Wife” directed by Dariusz Majchrzak have been put on.
Theatre Group “Scena 138” prepares a play incorporating the yearly workshops for the end of each season. So far they have produced and staged Śpiąca Królewna, Kopciuszek, and Królowa Śniegu.
Culture Centre has been inviting spectators to their Summer Stage in Gdynia for 5 years. The stage is located on the Gdynia Orłowo beach, which creates a unique atmosphere for the plays, concerts and cabaret shows. It issues a quarterly art magazine “Bliza” and manages the Gdynia Film Fund.
Culture Centre in Gdynia invites you to three new plays: Piusnio directed by Grzegorz Chrapkiewicz, Rybki. Historia gdyńskiej miłości and Sonata Belzebuba directed by Tomasz Podsiadły and Superświetnie directed by Magdalena Bochan-Jachimek.
