The Pinocchio Theatre

The Pinocchio Theatre

The Pinocchio Theatre in Lodz commenced its artistic activity in May of 1945. On January 1st, 1950, it obtained the status of a National Theatre. Its standard repertoire includes performances for all ages of audiences: infants, children, youth and adults. The Theatre's creativity is expressed in diverse theatrical forms and various conventions – from plastic theatre and poetic entertainments to educational shows. The Theatre is also engaged in modern art activities from the angle of new pedagogy. In the education process for children and youth, particular emphasis is laid on the Theatre's artistic and social projects: Pippi Longstocking's Chair, Closer to Theatre workshops for children, Look from a Different Angle cyclical activities aimed at teachers, pedagogues and tutors, or modern animation and illustration exhibitions, accompanying every premiere. The Theatre hosts the dynamically active Bruno Schulz Imagination Stage, putting on spectacles for adult audiences such as, inter alia, Balladyny i Romanse based on Ignacy Karpowicz's novel, and Bruno Schulz – The Story of Immoral Imagination. Last but not least, the Pinocchio Theatre is the organizer of all-Poland and international festivals such as The All-Poland Touch the Theatre Action, or The Theatrical Merry-Go-Round, itself participating in such events, home and abroad, too. Since 2009 the post of the Theatre's Managing and Artistic Director has been held by Konrad Dworakowski.
